Hair Removal Methods

There are many different methods for removing unwanted facial and body hair. Some are permanent, or semi-permanent, and will last a very long time, while others are considered temporary and their effect range from hours to days or weeks. Permanent methods are usually more costly and can also be more painful, but the results last longer.

Permanent

Most consumers think permanent means lasting forever. As in other areas, like a permanent marker pen or a permanent wave in your hair, permanent hair removal is not necessarily permanent. It's important you do your research before trying any of the permanent hair removal methods, and consider published scientific evidence to ensure the effectiveness of a method.

Temporary

There are two main methods for achieving temporary hair removal

  • Depilation
Removing part of the hair above the surface of the skin. Example methods are shaving, trimming and friction.
  • Epilation
Removing the entire hair. Example methods are tweezing, waxing and threading.

Epilation last longer than depilation. For most consumers, the short duration effect of the temporary hair removal methods is acceptable.
